According to related information, the Angstrom-T factory located in Zelenograd began construction in 2007. The management of Angstrom-T had close ties with then-Russian President Putin and received $1 billion in government funding during its early operations. They signed a contract worth €150 million with M + W Germany GmbH, tasked with constructing and launching the Angstrom-T factory for the production of 130-90 nm chips by the end of 2008.

Initially, Angstrom-T belonged to its parent company, Angstrom JSC, and the Angstrom-M design center. After receiving a loan from VEB, the factory was transferred to the Cyprus offshore company Runica Investments.

The decade between building and operation was fraught with challenges, including supply issues with photolithography machines produced by Dutch company ASML, U.S. sanctions, and the suspension of export and re-export licenses for equipment "contributing to military capabilities."After commencing operations, Angstrom-T struggled to compete against international chip manufacturing giants that had advantages in technology, funding, and market presence.

Additionally, the limited domestic demand for chips in Russia hindered Angstrom-T's rapid growth.Long-term investments with minimal revenue ultimately made it unsustainable for Angstrom-T.

In January 2019, the Foreign Economic Bank seized all of the factory's equipment and shares and filed for bankruptcy.Subsequently, Angstrom-T was handed over to the state defense company Rostec to maintain minimal chip production capacity and attempt to create import substitution products.

However, starting in 2022, it faced further sanctions from the U.S., Japan, and Switzerland.Earlier this month, Angstrom-T officially declared bankruptcy due to an inability to repay substantial loans. The bankruptcy of Angstrom-T marks a significant setback for Russia's military-industrial sector in the chip manufacturing field and has prompted reflections within the industry regarding chip production.
